Dennis Meiners
Hand-building with Slabs:
Incorporating Decoration in the Making Stage July 11-12-13, 2008
Workshop Description
This workshop will focus on the possibilities available when we liberate our hands and leave big expensive tools like slab rollers and extruders out of the process. Students will learn to illustrate personal imagery with textured slabs and use those slabs to construct functional and sculptural pots.
All experience levels will enjoy this class.
Dennis Meiners’ work has appeared in several books including The Artful Teapot by Garth Clark & Handbuilt Pottery by Kathy Triplett, as well as magazines Clay Times, Ceramics Monthly and American Craft. He has taught many workshops and taught at Portland Community College and Oregon College of Arts & Crafts. He received his BA from Washington State University in 1973 and has been a full time studio potter since that time. Dennis has been honored twice with the Best of Show Award at the annual Oregon Potter's Association Ceramic Showcase.
HUMMINGBIRD is the adobe and strawbale home and studios he built with his wife, Leslie Lee .

"I loved that I could come into Dennis' workshop 'green' and still get so much out of it!"
"Dennis knows, lives and teaches from the heart, soul and mind. I learned more from him in three days than I have in the last one and a half years in my clay class."
"I thought the demonstrations were extremely well done- executed with passion as well as detail. I was mesmerized. I believe Dennis could teach anyone, he is so patient..."
